Millions of pregnant women, new mothers, and children experience severe illness or death each year, largely from preventable or treatable causes. Almost all maternal and child deaths (99%) occur in low- and middle-income countries, with Africa being the hardest hit region.
Clean Water and Sanitation is foundational to good health. Moreover, clean water and sanitation is a right. When individuals have access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene, they lead healthier and more productive lives.
Sixty million people are displaced by armed conflict or persecution. Ninety percent of armed-conflict casualties are civilians, half of them children.
