There are many challenges teachers face in delivering quality education. Geography is one of them. The Rotary Club of Cashiers Valley raises money to provide gas cards to teachers and educators who literally go the extra mile.
Many of our area's dedicated educators travel long distances to provide quality education and instruction to children and students living in Western North Carolina. A large number drive more than 20 miles to and from work each day, and some come to Jackson County from as far away as Waynesville, racking up a 3-hour round trip. This is to say nothing of teachers who travel to various locations throughout the week because shrinking budgets are requiring schools to do more with less.
