Program Recap - Nov. 5, 2014
The Rotary Club of Cashiers Valley was thrilled to welcome the members of Blue Ridge School’s Interact Club who joined RCCV last week for breakfast and an update on their current projects. Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting, but are sponsored by individual Rotary Clubs.
Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects. For the 2014-2015 school year, the Blue Ridge Interact Club is working on four: an annual Coat Drive that collects and distributes gently used coats to those in need; the Santas for Seniors program which delivers gifts and cards to the area’s senior citizens during the holiday season; and two food drives – one held for the benefit of the Fishes & Loaves Food Pantry, and the other for the shelter animals of Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society. Members of the Interact Club also help Blue Ridge School administration by translating some school communications for the Spanish-speaking community.
Cashiers Rotary was also pleased to induct its newest member, Janice Dillard, who joined under the sponsorship of Vanna Cameron and Bob Starkey.
The Rotary Club of Cashiers Valley meets every Wednesday morning at the Cashiers United Methodist Church, on Highway 107 S. Breakfast is served at 7:30am and the meeting begins at 8am. Non-Rotarians are welcome to attend as a guest by contacting a Rotary member or calling 828-526-0288. Visit www.cashiersrotary.org for more information on the club’s activities and service opportunities.
