Caring & Cleaning: 2 Area Non-Profits Speak to Cashiers Rotary

The Rotary Club of Cashiers Valley was pleased to welcome guest speakers from both Cashiers Cares and Clean Slate Coalition, two non-profits that serve to better the lives of deserving individuals in our region.

Cashiers Cares raises money for area non-profits while raising public awareness of the services they offer. Lynn Keating spoke about the upcoming Giving Fair on Saturday, Dec. 13, where representatives from nine area charities will be on hand to talk about their work, including: Blue Ridge Free Dental Clinic, Big Brother Big Sister of Cashiers, Clean Slate Coalition, Community Care Clinic, Fishes & Loaves Food Pantry, Four Seasons Hospice Care, Life Challenge of Western NC, Literacy Council of Cashiers and United Christian Ministries of Jackson County.

The Cashiers Cares Giving Fair takes place at the Cashiers Community Center following the Cashiers Christmas Parade. Attendees can truly embrace the “season of giving” by donating directly to charities, providing gifts in the names of friends and loved ones while also enjoying a free hot dog lunch provided by Cashiers Rotary.

Marsha Crites from Clean Slate Coalition was also on-hand to speak about their work to provide a safe and structured environment for previously incarcerated women as they begin their transitions back into the general public. Their live-in facilities provide support and encouragement while they go to school or work, volunteer in the community, and participate in a number of professional counseling, skill development programs and 12-step meetings appropriate to each individual’s situation.

Their new Clean Slate Enterprise Program is designed to help the org become fully sustaining by engaging the women in gainful employment. The program offers residential and commercial cleaning services, as well as the sale of cleaning materials and accessories designed and developed in-house by the program’s participants.

Cashiers Rotary invites you to learn more about and support the work of these and other area organizations by getting involved. For meeting times, locations and information on how to become a Rotarian, please visit www.cashiersrotary.org or find us on Facebook at facebook.com/cashiersncrotary.
