A Message from District Governor Isaac Owolabi

The above topic is how I want to describe our “All Clubs District Conference” this year. Where 210 people from our District 7670 gathered to celebrate our accomplishments in the year of Inspiration. There were 36 clubs represented and 54 new people who had never attended a District Conference before gathered with us in Greenville, SC, this past weekend. This All Clubs District Conference will go into the records as one of the best in the history of our District. Not only did we have an incredible line of speakers but also had fun speakers and treated ourselves to great dancers on Saturday night. In fact, a few of our members went onto the floor to demonstrate their dancing acumen.

Past Rotary International Director Brad Howard helped us to understand “Why Rotary” and also shared with us the “Tide in Rotary”. What a breathtaking speech Brad delivered to the conference attendees. Our own Sarah Leatham shared a personal and emotional speech about her climbing of Mountain Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. What about the receptions sponsored by two families for our AGs, PDG’s, and Presidents on both Friday and Saturday nights? A number of Rotarians were honored at the conference. Our Rotarian of the Year is Joan VanOrman of Pisgah Forest Club. DG Isaac described her as a “Deputy to the DG.

On top of the above, our District continues to celebrate the highest increase in membership - not only in percentage but in raw numbers in our entire Zone 33. We are #3 in Zone 33/34 combined. If the trend continues, this may be the first time we have an increase at the end of June in more than five years. What a great gift we can give DGE Tiffany Ervin!

We also learned at the Conference that the RC of Highlands, earned 1st place in our District, and was #3 in the world on “Giving Tuesday.” Two other clubs with 2nd and 3rd positions in our District are Asheville-Biltmore and Sylva clubs respectively.

The giving to CART is a new height also. Three years ago, we gave $90K, last year was $108K, and while the total number is not in yet, in 2018/2019 the number is $114,030.

The total giving for the Foundation is not all in yet, however, we are likely to hit a record giving as well. We need you to continue to send your Foundation money in. Is your club one of those clubs without any contribution to polio? Please check with your president and make sure we have 100% contribution towards polio in our District 7670.

The Conference project this year was “Project Host” of Greenville, SC. Several cans of food were donated. Here is the message from the Director of Project Host. Please let everyone know how much we at Project Host appreciate the food donation. I went ahead and picked it up today… Seeing all those large cans will make our volunteers so happy! The cans of corn have come at just the right time. We have many food drives in November and December with an abundance of food. However, we ran out of corn a couple of weeks ago. This is perfect! “Please feel free to invite your members to come and join us one day so they can see who is on the receiving end of their donations. “

If you did not make it to Greenville for “All Clubs District Conference” we have the conference program to mail to you while supplies last; for a donation of $10 dollars to polio. We follow the Four Way Test here! Finally, thank you for allowing Abigail and I to serve you in 2018/2019 Year of Inspiration. You are the Inspiration for your club, community, and our District 7670.
